This is a document that will change and evolve with the App, so check back for changes when an App update has occurred. This document is more of a guide than a technical manual. It is an quick reference and overview of the different screens of the App and the basic functions within each screen.

The StockWatch App is divided into four main sections: WatchList, Portfolios, Sync Data, and Settings. Each section of the App is accessed by the labeled tabs on the bottom of the screen.

Manual for Versions: StockWatch 4.50+
Last Update: June 10, 2012

Please note:
Screenshots could vary from version to version, and may not be from the most current version of the App.

WatchList:

boxTop
screen
Main:

This screen, which loads first (unless you have configured a personalized default loading screen), is your main WatchList. Here you will create a list of symbols that you want to track. These symbols can be any valid Yahoo! Finance (USA) formatted symbol. If Yahoo! Finance (USA) has the symbol, then StockWatch can get quotes for it. This screen will show a listing of the main Watchlist, with each row consisting of the Symbol, Name, Last Price, Time/Date of Last Price, and a TapToggle box. The TapToggle box holds two values, the Price Change and the Percent Change. To toggle between the two values, simply tap on the colored box. To 'drill-down' on a symbol and see more information, simply tap the row you wish and you will be taken to the Symbol Detail Screen.

Add Symbol:

On this screen you will be able to search and add symbols to your Watchlist. To do so, simply type the Symbol or Name into the search area and tap Search. Make sure that you select the appropriate filter 'Symbol or Company'. You also have the additional filters to search from the three different regions: US/Canada, Europe, and Asia Pacific, and to use Full or Partial names.

If your search renders results, you will be presented with a listing of matches that will denote the Symbol, Company (Name), Exchange, and Symbol Type (Stock, Fund, Etc.). To add a result to your WatchList, simply tap on the row and it will be added to your Watchlist and the most current quote will be retrieved.

StockWatch has an internal database of symbols from across the major exchanges worldwide. It is possible that our internal database is missing some symbols, as the markets change and update symbols sometimes. If your searches are coming up with No Results, don't worry. If the symbol can be found on Yahoo! Finance, then it can be tracked within StockWatch. You can search Yahoo! for your symbols from the button below. Once found, take note of the exact symbol structure and search again within StockWatch. If you still get No Results and the symbol is properly structured to Yahoo! format it just means that our internal database of symbols does not have that one. To force-add the symbol to your Watchlist or Portfolio Watchlist, just tap the "Add Anyway" section and it will be added and the latest data will be retrieved.

Most non-US symbols will require the proper exchange suffix added to the symbol.
For example:

In the UK, you will need to add the ".L" suffix to the symbol.

In Australia: you will need to add the ".AX" suffix to the symbol.

Lookup on Yahoo! Finance

Sync Services
(Internet connection required. Preferably WiFi)

boxTop
screen
Sync Services:

One of the coolest features in StockWatch is the ability to backup your StockWatch data. When you first Tap the 'Sync Data' tab you will be taken to a main screen for this FREE service. From the App you will be able to Export and Import your Watchlists, Portfolios, Portfolio Watchlists, and Lots to a centralized service in case you ever need to Import that data again. Say, for example, that your iPhone/iPod crashes and you have to re-install the Operating System? Or you get that new iPad/iPhone/iPod that everyone is talking about and have a newly installed version of StockWatch but don't want to enter in all your data? Or, maybe, you have multiple devices and want to share the data between them. With the FREE StockWatch Sync Service, you now can be confident that you will never lose your data again.

The first thing you need to do is create a PIN. Tap the Setup Pin button on the top of the screen. On this screen you can read the service's Terms Of Service which everyone should do. You can always read the Terms Of Service on the StockWatch website at any time.

screen
New Users:

To create a new PIN, simply type in the alpha-numeric PIN, re-enter the PIN, and tap the Sign Up button. If you have not yet created a PIN on this device, an account will be setup automatically for you. Please remember your PIN. Also, your account has been designated a Unique Identifier, which is a case-sensitive alpha-numeric passcode that you SHOULD WRITE DOWN ALONG WITH YOUR PIN. This Unique ID will be what you use to sync multiple device or reinitialize your data with a clean install of Stockwatch. Please make note of your PIN and Unique Identifier (found on the 'Change PIN' screen). Upon sign up, you will be returned to the previous screen which will allow you to Export/Backup Data immediately if you wish.

This screen has two dates. The first is the Date of Last Online Backup. This is the date of the LAST BACKUP that you made to the service from any device. If you have multiple devices using the same account data, your current device might not be synced with the data that is backed up online. It is your responsibility to keep track and keep record of which device has what data and all that. Every time you Export your data from ANY device, this date will be updated. The date here is the indicator of the services last backup for your account.

The second date is the Last Export from this device. This is a great way to know when you last exported your data from this device to the service. Every time you Export your data from THIS device, this date will be updated. Again, it is your responsibility to keep track and keep a record of your data, the backups made, the backup dates, your PIN, your Unique Identifier, etc.

Existing Users:

If you have multiple devices, a fresh install of StockWatch, and need to reinitialize your device with your account you can do so by selecting Existing User on the Setup PIN screen. To re-sync your device to your account, simply enter in your PIN and your Unique Identifier. Once you tap the Sync This Device button, and if your PIN and UID are valid, your account will be notified and updated that this device is using the service and would like to be synced with your account and your data. At this time, you can Export and Import all you want.

Share data between devices:

Decide which device has the best data on it.

Lets say, for example, your iPad has the data on it. Export the data to the Sync Service. Then remove the App from your iPhone and re-install the App so it is a fresh install with no data. Then go in and Setup PIN, but an existing PIN choice. Use the PIN and Unique Identifier that is on your iPad StockWatch version. Once you have synced the iPhone to that Unique ID you can then Import the Sync Service data onto that.
boxBottom

boxTop
screen
Backup:
To Backup your data, all you need to do is enter in your PIN and tap the button and your current data will be synced with your account. Any data that was previously backed up to the service will be overwritten with the data from the device you are Exporting from. The service DOES NOT validate or verify your exported data to see if it is different than what is on the currently stored on the service. After you have a Backup on the service you will be able to Import your data at anytime. Obviously, if you have never Backed-Up your data, you will not be able to Import until you do so.

Import:
To import your previously backed-up data, simply enter in your PIN and tap the Import button. Please be advised that Importing your previously Exported data will completely remove all of the current data on your device and replace it with the data that is located on the StockWatch service. This action CANNOT be undone, so be aware and careful.
boxBottom

boxTop
screen
Change PIN:
After you have created your PIN, you can return to the PIN screen by tapping the Change PIN button. This will allow you to change your PIN if you would like to. Of course, to change your PIN you will need to enter in your new PIN twice and your current PIN. If you do not know your current PIN, there is a way to reset your PIN, but you will need to contact us to find out how.

Forgot your Unique Identifier or PIN?:
To reset your PIN and Unique Identifier, do the following:

1. Sync Data > Change/Setup Pin
2. Tap the word "Unique Identifier" five times.
3. Follow prompts

Doing these steps will NOT erase your existing data from the sync service. It merely updates your records with the new UID and PIN. If you change your UID and PIN, any other devices that use your old PIN will need to be changed as well. Quickest way to do so is to remove the App from that device, reinstall the App, and setup your PIN as an existing account.

View Listing:
If you have exported your data to the StockWatch Sync Service, noted with "Date of Online Backup", you can tap this this button to connect to the Sync Service and visually confirm your backup.
